Nicole Johnson's Detour

Who takes a Sawzall to a classic car and rips it up the middle? Jim Stabe did the unthinkable when he set out to widen his tiny 1966 MGB British roadster he'd owned for decades. After 17 years of fabricating all the tools and components to build the car, the blazing red Wide MGB emerged as a head-turning work of art with a supercharged 535 horsepower water-methanol injected LT1 Camaro engine boasting 550 foot-pounds of torque riding on C4 Corvette suspension.

Nicole Johnson discovers all the details above and below the Wide MGB and takes Jim for a supercharged trip around sunny San Diego.
